I was recently made aware of a nifty one week tutorial for Adobe Flex [found here] which I have been playing with using the Flex Builder 3. For the unitiated, Flex uses MXML and ActionScript to create interactive applications in an environment catered more directly to coders than Adobe Flash does by default. Flex Builder 3 is an Eclipse-based IDE text editor and compiler for easy management and coding of Flex projects.
I have tinkered with Flash for many years and while I’ve gotten used to its design tools for artwork and animation, I never really got into the concept of using Flash for interactive media, forms, etc. It just seemed too cumbersome for something much more easily accomplished using XHTML, PHP or other web technologies.
However, it appears the need for Flex developers is on the rise with employers, so, hey, why not take a look.
I have only gotten through day two of the five days in the program, but have already seen how useful Flex is and how relatively easy it is to use. As a personal exercise, I opted to revamp the video player on this website. . . .
I have just added a new Downloads section to the website. I hope to be more prolific with my writings and to post new works as I complete them. New downloads will be given a post on the website with a link to the download URL and feedback on each item is welcome in the comments and/or via PM and may be applied to future drafts.
The first script I have provided is a 4-page film short titled DRIP, which I wrote one morning after a flash of inspiration. I entered it into the “Sound of Silence” competition over at MoviePoet.com in April ‘08 and was pleased to find that I took 2nd place (out of 44 entries).
About DRIP:
A haunted man is kept awake by a dripping noise echoing throughout his house.
[Placed 2nd in the "Sound of Silence" competition at MoviePoet.com]
Fascinating to me in so many ways, and incredibly inspiring for ‘those times’ in life.

“Surgeon and author Sherwin Nuland discusses the development of electroshock therapy as a cure for severe, life-threatening depression — including his own. It’s a moving and heartfelt talk about relief, redemption and second chances.”
I absolutely love the visual, audio and performance qualities of Up Wake. Natasha Tsako is an amazing performer and I find this talk and what she has created to be incredibly inspiring.
